Natiuonal Poetry DayThe theme for this years National Poetry day, on October 9th,  is 'Work'. Work of any kind or any description.

The poet in residence for this year is Paul Farley, who will be at National Poetry Days flagship event, held in Liverpool, in honour of the city’s European Capital of Culture status. He will be reading new poems joined by poet Martin Espada.

You can go online to send a free e-poem to a friend in honour of the event or you can download a free poster. There are also free lesson plans, with seperate different ones for ages from 5 up to 16 years, to support teaching poetry in the classroom.

The theme for poems is 'Work' and they must be submitted by the closing date of 14th November, using the competition entry form that you can find online. Children can enter themselves or teachers can submit work from their class.
