European Day of LanguagesEuropean day of Languages has been held annually since 2001, on the 26th September to celebrate language and cultural diversity.  It was instigated by the Council of Europe. The aims of the day are

  • To alert the public to the importance of language learning
  • To increase awareness and appreciation of all languages
  • To encourage lifelong language learning
  • Teachers, could you use this day to find out more about the languages spoken at home by the children in your class? How many different languages are spoken? Can anyone sing a song in their language, or perhaps teach the other children some simple phrases or numbers?
